Statement over de discussies in de Eerste Kamer

WOinActie constateert met zorg dat ook na het debat van gisteren nog steeds niet zeker is dat de bezuinigingen op het hoger onderwijs door de Eerste Kamer zullen worden weggestemd, ondanks aanhoudende twijfels over de rechtmatigheid. Nu ook het CDA, het CU en de SGP zich achter de minister scharen, worden deze maatregelen dus vermoedelijk geïmplementeerd. De schade die ze zullen aanbrengen aan de Nederlandse economie, samenleving en cultuur is al door  burgemeesters, bedrijven, maatschappelijke organisaties en vele anderen onder de aandacht gebracht.

Ook  de Wet Internationalisering in Balans ligt nog steeds ter tafel, waardoor nog eens tienduizenden docenten en studenten getroffen zullen worden.

WOinActie zal dit voorjaar daarom niet alleen doorgaan met actievoeren, maar de acties zelfs intensiveren.

WOinActie notes with concern that even after yesterday’s debate, it remains uncertain whether the Senate will reject the cuts to higher education, despite persistent doubts about their legality. Now that CDA, CU, and SGP have aligned with the minister, these measures will likely be implemented. The damage they will cause to the Dutch economy, society, and culture has already been highlighted by mayors, businesses, civil society organizations, and many others.

Additionally, the Balanced Internationalization Act is still on the table, which will impact tens of thousands more teachers and students.

Therefore, WOinActie will not only continue its campaigning this spring but will intensify its actions.
