Steunbetuiging aan juristen / Statement of support for legal professionals

Afgelopen week werd duidelijk dat niet alleen het onderwijs en onderzoek lijdt onder verkeerde beleidskeuzes die de toekomst van Nederland schaden maar ook de rechtstaat gevaar loopt. Het OM zucht onder verouderde ICT waardoor medewerkers hun werk niet goed kunnen doen, de werkdruk onnodig oploopt en een goede procesgang in gevaar komt. Daarnaast lopen strafrechtadvocaten het gevaar dat de vertrouwelijke aard van hun gesprekken met cliënten in EBI’s niet wordt gewaarborgd door het gebruik van cameratoezicht bij die gesprekken. In beide gevallen wordt het goed functioneren van de rechtstaat bedreigd.

WOinActie spreekt haar solidariteit uit met alle medewerkers die te maken hebben met deze problemen en roept de leiding van het OM en staatssecretaris Rutte van Justitie en Veiligheid op om met oplossingen te komen. WOinActie roept eveneens de formerende partijen op adequaat te investeren in (semi-)publieke diensten om het functioneren ervan en de toekomst van Nederland niet verder in gevaar te brengen.

Last week, it became clear that not only education and research are suffering from poor policy choices that are damaging the future of the Netherlands, but that the rule of law is also at risk. The Public Prosecution Office is struggling with outdated IT systems, which prevent employees from doing their work properly, increases their workload unnecessarily and jeopardizes the proper conduct of proceedings. In addition, criminal lawyers run the risk that the confidential nature of their conversations with clients in EBI prisons will not be guaranteed due to the use of camera surveillance during those conversations. In both cases, the proper functioning of the rule of law is threatened.

WOinActie expresses its solidarity with all employees affected by these problems and calls on the management of the Public Prosecution Office and State Secretary Rutte of Justice and Security to come up with solutions. WOinActie also calls on the parties forming the new government to invest adequately in (semi-)public services so as not to further jeopardize their functioning and the future of the Netherlands.
