Dinsdag 9 december staken we opnieuw en komen we samen om 12:00 op de Dam in Amsterdam. Onze eis om alle bezuinigingen van het inmiddels demissionaire kabinet Schoof terug te draaien is immers nog steeds niet ingewilligd. Sterker nog: ondanks de winst van D66 bij de verkiezingen van 29 oktobber j.l., lijkt onderwijs in de voorlopige 'handreiking' van D66 en CDA slecht te worden ingezet ten behoeve van ecomisch gewin. Dat belooft vooralsnog weinig goeds voor de onafhaneklijkheid van de universiteit en de academische vrijheid van onderzoekers, alsmede voor de werkdruk.

Het afgelopen jaar hebben we met een eerste landelijke staking, gesteund door tal van organisaties en bedrijven, en estafettestakingen door het land al laten zien dat de bezuinigingen slecht zijn voor de toekomst van Nederland en we ze niet pikken. 

Dit is hét moment om onze stempel te drukken op de formatie en onze inzet van het afgelopen jaar om te zetten in echte verandering.  Dat lukt alleen als we er bovenop zitten en druk blijven uitoefenen. Investeren in hoger onderwijs betekent: bezuinigingen terugdraaien én extra investeren. 

Kom dus 9 december om 12:00 naar de Dam in Amsterdam!

Wat kun jij doen?

. Weiger alle afspraken op de 9e tijdens de demonstratie. Licht toe waarom je staakt in jen out-of-office. 

. Praat met je directe collega's en nodig ze uit om samen naar Amsterdam te gaan.

. Vraag je vrienden in andere departementen of afdelingen om hetzelfde te doen.

. Post op je sociale media dat je naar Amsterdam gaat en waarom.

. Vertel je studenten over het protest, waarom dat plaatsvindt en hoe de bezuinigingen hun opleiding en onderwijs zal raken.

. Gebruik en verspreid het actiemateriaal. 

. Ga flyeren tijdens de lunch of een wandelingetje. 

. Draag een rood vierkantje. 
. Laat je creativiteit los op spandoeken en protestborden. Organiseer een crea-doe-uur met je afdeling. 

. Sluit je aan bij een lokale WOinActie-groep en blijf op de hoogte van WOinActie aan jouw universiteit of hogeschool.

On Tuesday 9 December, we will strike again and gather at 12:00 noon on Dam Square in Amsterdam. Our demand to reverse all the cuts made by the now outgoing Schoof cabinet has still not been met. In fact, despite D66's victory in the 29 October elections, in the provisional “invitation” issued by D66 and CDA education appears to be merely serving economic gains. This does not bode well for the independence of the university and the academic freedom of researchers, nor for the workload.

Over the past year, with our first national strike, supported by numerous organisations and companies, and relay strikes across the country, we have already shown that the cuts are bad for the future of the Netherlands and that we will not accept them.

Now is the time to make our mark on the formation of the new government and to turn our efforts of the past year into real change. We can only succeed if we stay on top of things and continue to exert pressure. Investing in higher education means reversing the cuts and investing more.

So come to Dam Square in Amsterdam on 9 December at 12:00 noon!

What can you do? 

 

 . Decline all meetings for the 9th during the period when the demonstration takes place. Explain why you are striking in your out-of-office reply.

. Talk to your direct colleagues and invite them to go to Amsterdam together.
. Ask your friends in other departments to do both the above.
. Post on your social media accounts that you are going to the demonstration on December 9th, and why.
. Tell your students that there is a protest, and why it takes place, and how the budget cuts will affect their educational experience.

. Use and distribute the action material.
. Volunteer to flyer during lunch breaks and/or while taking a walk.
. Make sure to wear a red square.
. Let your creativity go wild and make some protest signs, for instance, during a workshop with your team
. Join a local WOnActie group for updates on WOinActie at your university.
